VASCULAR SURGERY

VASCULAR SURGERY
Blood is pumped out in to very large blood vessels and then distributed to various parts of the body through smaller blood vessels. As the blood reaches the distant organs and tissues the blood vessels size also becomes smaller and smaller. sometimes obstruction to the flow of blood occurs in these peripheral blood vessels. If obstruction occurs in the vessels supplying to a particular organ, for example the kidney, functioning of that organ will deteriorate and sometimes may totally fail. Obstruction must be removed and blood flow should be restored to normal for preserving the function. Similarly, if obstruction occurs in a vessel supplying blood to the leg or hands poor oxygen supply to the tissues will result in infection, pus collection or even loss of function. Some times may even end up in amputation of the limb. At SB Hospital vascular surgeons remove the obstruction and try their best to save the organ or the limb. Peripheral vessel Angiograms are done to identify the cause and level of obstruction so that appropriate surgery or stenting is done to relieve obstruction.
