SB Hospital was started in the year 1990, by Dr. S. Balasubramanian, MS, MCh, FICS, FIAMS.
This was the first Urology & Nephrology Specialty Hospital in Tamil Nadu, a Tertiary referral center for Urology, Nephrology & Male Infertility Services for Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Ariyalur, Karaikal districts. A Large Number of Patients have been treated for Urological Diseases in the past 35 years.

Dr. S. Balasubramanian had Graduated from JIPMER Puducherry in the year 1965. He did his M.S General surgery from MAM College. New Delhi in 1970. He was the first qualified surgeon for the Nilgris District. He worked in Coonoor General Hospital for 3 years and then he specialised in Urology and took his MCh Urology from the Prestigious Madras Medical college in 1975. He started the Department of Urology in Thanjavur Medical college in 1978. He took Voluntary Retirement from Government Service in 1986 and then built this Superspeciality Hospital.
